Derbyshire Times Business Awards
The Environment Award 2009

Polar Windows team members are celebrating more achievements after winning the Environmental Performance category!
The awards, run by the Derbyshire Times newspaper for the first time this year and sponsored by Derbyshire Enterprise Agency was held at Hassop Hall near Bakewell , saw entries attracted from across the county.
From a standing start 18 months ago Polar Windows has demonstrated that it possible to make significant improvements in environmental performance while developing commercially.
The company based its environmental policy on two fundamental tenets:
- Environmental sustainability and economic sustainability go hand in hand; the greenest of companies will not succeed in its objectives if its services and products are not economically viable.
- The environmental impact of an organisation is directly related to the activities of its staff.
With these principles in mind Polar Windows set about engaging its employees in the process of change and this has yielded rewards beyond all expectations. Over 85% of post consumer waste is now recycled and significant cuts in wastage and energy use have been made.
Managing Director Alan Crowe said " I am delighted with our achievements. It is recognition of the dedication, expertise and hard work of my colleagues. We continuously look to develop our team and the service and products we offer."
Dawn Sweeney, managing director of the Derbyshire Times, who co-hosted the event with editor Mike Wilson, said: "The support we received for the awards has been testimony to the vibrancy of the business community here in Derbyshire."
